MSU offers a wide array of academic support services to support students with course content, help to develop study skills and time managment, encourage motivation and momentum, address financial concerns, offer disability services, assistance with questions about major/programs and more.

Advising Commons

Writing Center

Math and Stat Center - MSC

If you are a freshman or an incoming transfer student, and you have declared a social science or natural science major, you will recieve inital advising in the Letters & Science Advising Commons. 

One-on-one tutoring for undergraduate and graduate students. Open fall, spring and summer. Check their website for the most current hours of operation and to make an appointment

The MSC offers a quiet space to study and do math/stats homework with the option to recieve free one-on-one tutoring. No appointments are necessary but your cat card is required to enter, and you must be enrolled in a math or statistics course.

McNair Scholars Program

Allen Yarnell Center for Student Success

Through grant funding, TRiO supports underrepresented students at MSU. There is an application process and you must qualify. Visit their website for more information. Financial Aid

Provides access to all college programs, services, activities and facilities for students with disabilities. Provide accomodations, support for students returning to college and veteran education benefits. Veterans Services partners with Disability Services, Financial Aid, and the Allen Yarnell Center for Student Success. They can help veterans apply for benefits and select the best program for your situation. 

Financial Aid can help students pay their bills, discuss funding and enrollment, determine which programs are eligible for aid, provide FAFSA help and more! Visit their website for more information.

Study Abroad

The Office of International Programs offers 250+ study abroad programs in 60+ countries. Study Abroad provides resources, advising and support to students in all majors wishing to enhance their college education by studying aboad.  Students at MSU may find themselves being asked to create eportfolios in some of their classes. Academic Technology and Outreach has partnered with Adobe and the eportfolio program to provide resources to help guide students in the process. Please visit their website for more information.

The Center for Recovering Students

FREE confidential counseling for all students, crisis support, suicide prevention, online self-help resources, and more. Please reach out if you are feeling anxious, suicidal, like self-harming or in any way unwell. We are all here to support you. Visit their website for more information.  

Provides FREE and confidential services and information for all people impacted by sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and harassment; including friends, family and loved ones of survivors.

A community of students in sobriety, their allies, and those looking to gain or maintain recovery from addictive disorders. The DISC promotes inclusion and understanding of difference, supports students from underrepresented identiy groups and encourages critical thinking about diversity topics. The DISC offers programs and trainings to students, staff and faculty as well as special events. ASMSU Legal Services

Provides police service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Provide safety escorts across campus, jump-starts and vehicle unlocking, parking services, campus crime alerts and reporting.

MSU provides housing options for undergraduate students as well as for families and graduate students. All questions regarding housing must be directed to University Student Housing.  The Associated Students of Montana State University (ASMSU) have partnered with Cromwell Law, PLLC to offer students affordable legal services. For $10 you can meet with experienced lawyers. Common services: MIP, criminal, landlord/tenant, family, name changes, business/nonprofit advising, consumer issues and immigration.

The Bounty of the Bridgers Campus Food Pantry is a student-driven initiative to combat food waste and food insecurity on the MSU campus for students, faculty and staff. Provides assistance to apply for SNAP benefits.

Did you know you can recieve medical care without leaving campus? Recieve same-day (urgent care) and primary care complete with a clinical laboratory, pharmacy, radiology services and vacciations available on campus. Any currently enrolled student who has paid the University Health Fee, can visit the clinic for services. The student health insurance policy is not required.  Meet with certified nutritionists, dieticians and wellness coaches to identify and create the conditions you need to make lasting change in regards to your wellness goals. Counseling and coach can help you identify and achieve your nutrition/wellness goals.

Newsletter

The department puts together a newsletter called The Hotline that is sent out to all Political Science majors and minors every Friday afternoon fall and spring semesters. During the summer, they're sent on a less frequent basis and prioritized based on content. It's filled wtih important information regarding timelines for the academic year, events specific to our department and college, jobs and internship opportunities. We strive to include only the most relevant information for our students so please read it and let us know if you are not receiving it so we can make sure you are on the list!
