PRE-TRAVEL COVID TESTING IS NOT AVAILABLE AT MSU!
PRE-TRAVEL COVID TESTING
***PRE-TRAVEL COVID TESTING IS NOT AVAILABLE AT MSU!***
(https://www.montana.edu/health/coronavirus/health-safety/testing/)
Before you consider pre-travel testing, you must know type of test required for your travel (PCR vs Antigen) & the testing timeframe required for your travel.*
- This varies by destination and by mode of travel.
- Free at-home Antigen tests are NOT acceptable
- Observed and expensive at-home tests with result generated by a testing company may or may not be OK – you will need to check the requirements of your situation.
- If, in the last 90 days, you have a documented COVID infection with positive lab documentation, your PCR may remain positive! You may need "Documentation of Recovery" (outbound or incoming to US).
- Remember to check testing requirements to return to the US, which changes regularly
- For up-to-date information on return to US requirements:https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/testing-international-air-travelers.html

SELF-TESTS WITH REMOTE SUPERVISION VIA TELEHEALTH
For some needs, you may also consider obtaining a test which is connected to a remote observation service which can then provide you with needed documentation for outbound travel and for the return-to-US COVID testing requirement currently in place. These are sometimes called "Self-Tests With Remote Supervision". They may provide a significantly less expensive alternative to in-person lab or clinic testing if appropriate.
The currently suspended CDC Rule for using these to return to the US (found here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/testing-international-air-travelers.html in the drop-down menu under "Test and Documentation Requirements") includes: "The testing procedure must include a telehealth service affiliated with the manufacturer of the test that provides real-time supervision remotely through an audio and video connection. Some FDA-authorized self-tests that include a telehealth service may require a prescription." The CDC also cautions: "Some countries may restrict importation of tests that are not authorized or registered there. If you are considering bringing a U.S.-authorized test with you for use outside of the United States, contact authorities at your destination for information before you travel."
