Description

The purpose of this award is to recognize excellent teachers who have made exemplary contributions to instruction and student learning at Montana State University.

Eligibility

All current tenure track and non-tenure track faculty who have completed a minimum of three years of teaching at MSU-Bozeman are eligible for nomination. Not eligible are current members of the selection committee and prior recipients of the President’s Excellence in Teaching Award, Presidential Distinguished Teaching Award, or Burlington-Northern Faculty Achievement Award. Due to the nature of this award, faculty may not self-nominate.

Selection Criteria

  • Outstanding teaching that fosters student learning, critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity and can include work with students at any level and in a wide variety of settings. Excellent teaching will demonstrate the ability to meet and assess student learning objectives and is a student-centered approach.
  • Evidence of superior student mentoring which should illustrate the nominee's concern for student development beyond the normal expectations for academic advising.
  • Creative course, program, and/or curriculum development, and/or strategies used to keep students and instructors motivated and excited.
  • Exemplary contributions to the teaching profession that include activities that transcend the classroom.

Nomination Materials Required

Students,faculty, and administrators are invited to submit nominations online. Please provide the nominee ’s name, Department, and a brief statement as to why you feel your nominee should receive this award. Comments will be shared with the nominees. Students are especially encouraged to submit nominations. Each individual may nominate one only. Individuals who are nominated for the award will be contacted later for more information.
