The Pesticide Education Webinar Series offers one-hour presentations on pesticide and pest management related topics for applicators across the state of Montana. Each webinar is worth one private applicator credit (commerical credits are listed below) and is free to attend. You can sign up for all webinars at the link below.

Requirements

MSU Extension uses the web conferencing software WebEx for webinars. To receive credits you are required to view the screen, listen to the audio, and have the ability to type into the chat box. You will need the following to attend a WebEx based webinar:

  • Internet or cell service;
  • Computer and speakers (recommended), phone or tablet with the WebEx Meeting app downloaded.

How do I receive credits for attending a webinar?

In order to attend one of the webinars below for credits you will need to register in advance using the link provided. Please include your pesticide license number. Login a few minutes early to the webinar. The host will ask you to provide your full name and pesticide license number in the chat box at the beginning and end of the event. You will also be asked to provide your name or answer a question during the event.

You must be present for all attendance checks in order to receive credits. Please have your pesticide license number available during the webinar.

  • Speaker: Shelley Mills, MSU Extension Agent - Valley County
  • Description: Pesticides are considered an important component of pollinator decline. Shelley Mills, the MSU Extension Agent in Valley County, will provide important information on how pesticide use can be modified to have minimal impacts on pollinators. She will discuss pesticide types, timing of applications, modes of action, habitat risk mitigation, and colony collapse disorder of honeybees.

  • Speaker: Melissa Maggio, Montana Biocontrol Project Coordinator
  • Description: Melissa Maggio, the Montana Biocontrol Program Coordinator, will discuss the Montana Biocontrol Weed Project using biocontrol as a management option for specific weeds in Montana. She will cover the pros and cons of use, pesticide use when using biocontrol and the effectiveness of available options.

Managing Noxious Weeds near Water

Developing a Pest Management Plan for Vertebrate Pests

  • Date and Time: December 19, 12:00 to 1:00 pm
  • Speaker: Stephen Vantassel, MDA Vertebrate Pest Specialist
  • Description: This presentation will review the elements applicators need to consider when creating a pest management plan for vertebrate pests. Stephen will address the psychological barriers to planning, the steps of the planning process and the challenging questions that must be answered to determine the if control is cost effective. Tips for creating control plans for managing voles, ground squirrels, prairie dogs, and pocket gophers will be provided. Finally, recommendations on improving your pest management plan will be suggested.
