The scholarship application process for 2024-2025 academic year closed on May 1, 2024.

The 2025-2026 academic year scholarship application process doesn't begin until November 1, 2024.

Steps to Apply for Academic Year 2025-2026 Scholarships via the CAT Scholarships System:

  1. If you aren't a current student, you need to apply and be accepted to MSU before you can submit a scholarship application. Graduate students need to apply with the Graduate School.
  2. File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) now to be eligible for all scholarships. Many of our scholarships are based on financial need, so it's always a good idea to have a FAFSA on file with the Office of Financial Aid, even if you think you won't qualify for financial aid.
  3. Put in your CAT Scholarships application after November 1, 2024, at montana.academicworks.com. CAT Scholarships is the MSU scholarship system. By submitting an application into CAT Scholarships, you are automatically matched with any scholarships that you are eligible for across campus.
  4. Submit your application before the priority deadline of February 1, 2025. You can still submit an application through May 1, 2025, but it is always best to get in your application before the priority deadline.

Tips for submitting a quality application:

  1. Make sure that your email address and contact information is accurate.
  2. Proofread and edit the application before submitting.
  3. There is an essay question and this is one of the most important parts of your application. Take the time to craft a good response. The review committees want to know about you. What is your story - background, financial situation, career goals, current passions or interests, preparations for your chosen career path, etc.?

Scholarship Review Process:

  1. Scholarship committees will review scholarship applications throughout March and April.
  2. Decisions should be made before the end of May.
  3. If you are chosen to receive an EHHD scholarship, the CAT Scholarships system will send you an email asking you to accept your scholarship. This could happen anytime in April - June. Make sure to check your spam folder.

EHHD Emergency Funding

The College of Education, Health and Human Development is committed to supporting our students, and we recognize that sometimes life happens. Unplanned expenses, emergencies, sudden unemployment, car issues, caring for a loved one, and other life events might mean that you can't afford your rent, groceries, books, tuition, or basic necessities. If you are struggling in any way (not just limited to funding), please contact our Senior Assistant Dean, Kayte Kaminski, at kayte.kaminski@montana.edu or 406-994-4135. You can also stop by Reid hall 250 at any time. We would love to meet you, and you can grab some free snacks or a hot drink when you visit.

Scholarships Outside of Montana State University

We also list some scholarship opportunities that are not part of Montana State University. They are scholarships that you would have to apply for outside of the CAT Scholarships system. View the outside scholarship opportunities here.
