Thank you, and we hope to see you there!

What’s accreditation?

Accreditation is a massive, in-depth review of MSU. It makes sure MSU is doing its job and providing you the programs you need to succeed. Oh, and it makes sure MSU can keep participating in federal financial aid programs. MSU has been accredited since 1932.

Why ask for students for help?

The accreditors, who are here from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, want to hear your experiences — in the classroom, with faculty and staff, with other students, while participating in clubs, in the advising process and more.

Faculty Notification - August 22, 2024

Dear Faculty,

We will be hosting an accreditation peer review team October 9-11, 2024 from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).  Institutional accreditation by an independent agency is critical to the operation and reputation of Montana State University.  Your involvement is important to this review.

How you are involved:

The NWCCU external accreditation review team requests your presence in an open dialogue session to learn your perspective of our university’s continuous improvement processes, transparency, and institutional effectiveness.  Please add this event to your calendars and plan to attend.

Accreditation Faculty Forum – Wednesday, Oct 9 at 2:00pm in Inspiration Hall (Second Floor - Norm Asbjornson Hall)

Additionally, the review team will request open dialogue sessions with our committees and councils. About six weeks out from the site visit, we will receive confirmation of which committees the team wishes to meet and the schedule for those meetings.  Please keep your calendar as open as possible for Oct 9-11.  Our office will send committee members an individual calendar invite for these meetings.

Various ways you can prepare:

  1. Review your departmental assessments, program reviews or external accreditations, and processes towards continuous improvement.  Check your websites for ease of use and transparency for students in understanding your department, program learning outcomes, and classes.
  2. Brush up on your understanding of our academic program processes that document our continuous improvement via the Accreditation 101 modules:  https://www.montana.edu/accreditation/#
  3. Read the accreditation self-study reports: https://www.montana.edu/accreditation/2024_accreditation_docs.html
  4. Remind yourself of Choosing Promise, our strategic plan, and check up on our progress: https://www.montana.edu/strategicplan/

Thank you for saving these dates and planning to attend the forum.  More information will follow as we prepare for this important visit.
